Its not always how power full your WiFi base station is that determines a strong or a weak Wifi connection, Sometimes there are other factors present other than your eyes can see!
Things to keep in mind
- WiFi signals are travel in every direction which means your signal is traveling a spherical path
- The range is given based on an open area ( diameter of the sphere of WiFi signals is the router range )
Reasons for low connectivity
1 - It happens a lot of times that devices that you are using may not support the highest speed bands like 802.11ac which is currently the fastest band, so check your phone's config and supported bands of WiFi and try and see if your router supports them.
2- Slow router, This is the most common problem found globally that people upgrade their internet plans with greater speeds but they forget upgrading their WiFi routers to support these speeds, spend a buck and buy a new router.
3-If you live in a building with a lot of wireless/cordlless land lines then do keep in mind that standard WiFi routers and cordless phones run on 2.4 GHz band, so you may require a 5Ghz router and a supporting device.
3-If everything is normal and you have good internet speed and a latest smartphone then your router placement may be a huge problem, routers can only penetrate through 2 floors up and down,so try and place your routers inside the house instead of a wall that marks the boundary of your house because then you are wasting a lot of signal strength.
4 - buy a repeater and extend the range! ( easiest )
